What is the Ronchi Decree?

Legislative Decree No. 22 of 5 February 1997, also known as the “Ronchi Decree”, was issued to implement the European directives on municipal waste, hazardous waste and packaging.

This law represents the regulatory point of reference for waste management in Italy, which until then was fragmented and establishes precise rules for:

1. Reduce waste production;
2. Encourage recovery and recycling;
3. To increase the environmental awareness of citizens;
4. Create active collaboration between companies and municipalities.
