Vulcanized Rubber

The scraps, appropriately selected and reduced to the size required by the destination plants, are mainly aimed at energy recovery

Vulcanized rubber, what it is and how it works

Vulcanization is athermosetting”  chemical-physical process, which significantly improves the mechanical properties of natural rubber. Through the addition of vulcanizing agents (such as sulfur) and the application of heat, vulcanized rubber acquires: abrasion resistance, gas impermeability, chemical stability, heat and electricity resistance. Once vulcanized, rubber becomes a durable, elastic and high-performance material, used in numerous industrial sectors.

Treatment of vulcanized rubber scraps

Valli Gestioni Ambientali is specialized in the management of vulcanized rubber scraps (processing waste), mainly coming from the production of gaskets and technical items. The waste is:  carefully selected, reduced in size according to the specifications required by the destination plants, destined for energy recovery, also through the production of Secondary Solid Fuel (SRF), replacing fossil fuels. To allow their recovery, it is essential that the scraps are collected separately from the production phase, avoiding mixing with other materials.

Vulcanized rubber legislation: from waste to resources

The European Directive 2008/98/EC as amended, implemented in Italy by Legislative Decree 152/2006 as amended, promotes sustainable waste management, with the aim of transforming it into resources and promoting a circular economy model. The legislation establishes a hierarchy in waste management, at the top of which is prevention  and, subsequently, preparation for reuse, recycling, recovery and, finally, disposal  (only if the other alternatives are not technically feasible). Disposal is the last option, as it involves environmental risks and a considerable waste of material and energy resources, which could be recovered by resorting to appropriate treatment.

An opportunity for companies: transforming waste into value

Relying on Valli Gestioni Ambientali for the management of vulcanized rubber scraps means choosing an efficient, sustainable solution that complies with environmental regulations. Thanks to a consolidated process and cutting-edge technologies, waste is valorised through the recovery of materials or energy, contributing to the reduction of the use of fossil fuels and the reduction of emissions.

The companies that collaborate with Valli Gestioni Ambientali not only optimize their waste management, but actively participate in the transition to a circular economy, improving their environmental reputation and obtaining competitive advantages in the market.
